When Dacien caught wind of a plot by the Zhentarim to obtain a powerful weapon which they planned to use on to assassinate officials in Waterdeep, he killed Marod and assumed his identity to gain more information. He eventually recruited a band of adventurers to thwart the plans of the Zhentarim. Once the mission was complete Marod's body was discovered (along with a new will) and all his holdings were turned over to the adventurers who helped Dacien. When Dacien caught wind of a plot by the Zhentarim to obtain a powerful weapon which they planned to use on to assassinate officials in Waterdeep, he killed Marod and assumed his identity to gain more information.
