Dacien Thricedead
Dacien Thricedead: a male Half-Elf rogue assassin.
Born into a family of thieves, Dacien sought to make a name for himself early on. Having proven himself in his adventures with OBAG he has since created his own thieves guild and runs a small but effective spy network throughout the sword coast.
Dacien has never believed that “blood is thinker than water”, instead finding that loyalty beyond the bonds of blood are stronger and more pure. As such his loyalty to OBAG is unwavering.
Being hot headed and not willing to suffer fools makes him a dangerous person to cross. He is as likely to kill someone for annoying him as he is for any other reason. And yet, those whom he befriends will never have a stronger ally.
Having accepted a proposal from Gundren Rockseeker to guard a caravan and ended up in a tavern brawl where he encountered the warlock Viola Spiderworth and the bard Merick the Red. The rest, as they say, is histroy.
An original member of the Owl’s Bar Adventuring Group, he runs the thieves' guild in Phandalin from the cellar of Owl’s Bar. Recruited by the Zhentarim as an agent, he then used this position to act as a double agent on behalf of the Harpers. Dacien’s true allegiance is to OBAG, but it amused him to subtly thwart the Zhentarim, as he is sympathetic to the Harpers goals. He has since been exposed as working against the Zhentarim who now view him as an enemy.
He is a master of disguise as well as a deadly assassin, and has used these abilities during many intrigues along the Sword Coast. Of note is his taking over the identity of one Marod Wistvain, a fat, rich, gem merchant who's legitimate business in Waterdeep provided cover for fencing operations. Marod worked closely with the Zhentarim as well as Xanathar's Thieves' Guild.
When Dacien caught wind of a plot by the Zhentarim to obtain a powerful weapon which they planned to use on to assassinate officials in Waterdeep, he killed Marod and assumed his identity to gain more information. He eventually recruited a band of adventurers to thwart the plans of the Zhentarim. Once the mission was complete Marod's body was discovered (along with a new will) and all his holdings were turned over to the adventurers who helped Dacien.
Dacien has also served as a mentor to a Kenku Shadow Monk named Rekorak. Rekorak's ability to perfectly forge any documents as well as his ability to perfectly recall and recite messages made him a valuable courier, spy and messenger spy for Dacien.
Having lost someone close to him at the hands of a member of the Dragon Cult, Dacien will go out of his way to thwart or kill them any change he gets. Since the Zhentarim have become openly hostile to him he has been working to foil their plans and foment animosity between them and the Red Wizards of Thay. The Red Wizards have crossed paths with OBAG in the past and the thought of the Zhentarim and the Red Wizards being at war with each other amuses Dacien to no end.
